About Dr Frank Chang

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

Dr Frank Chang is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with degrees in both medicine and dentistry. Frank grew up in Auckland and he completed Bachelor of Dental Surgery at Otago University in 2003 and after working one year as a Dental House Surgeon at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland New Zealand, and two years as a Senior Dental officer for Hunter New England Area Health Services in New South Wales, he went on to complete degrees in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Auckland in 2009. After his medical training, he spent 2 years working as a House Surgeon in Middlemore and Auckland hospital.

Frank moved to Perth to complete his specialist training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and was awarded the specialist qualification of FRACDS(OMS) fellowship through Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He gained extensive experiences in the treatment of a wide range of Oral and Maxillofacial conditions. He had trained and worked across West Australia Metropolitan Health Services including Royal Perth Hospital, Fiona Stanley Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and Fremantle hospital.

After completing his surgical training, Frank then went to the United Kingdom for further sub-specialty post-fellowship College of Surgeons of England (RCS Eng) and College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCS Ed) dual college accredited training in Temporomandibular Joint surgery with internationally renowned Temporomandibular Joint surgeon at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. Frank also received advance specialist training in adult and paediatric deformity surgery in distraction osteogenesis, dento-facial deformity correction and head and neck oncology surgery whilst he was in Nottingham.

Dr Frank Chang has special interest in the surgical management of temporomandibular joint pathology, disorders and total TMJ replacement and TMJ arthroscopic surgery, facial trauma, orthognathic surgery for dento-facial deformities and airway and sleep surgery for obstructive sleep apnoea, distraction osteogenesis and practices full scopes of practice in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery including dentoalveolar surgery, implantology and oral pathology.

Frank works in private practice in South Perth and West Leederville of Perth. He also enjoys teaching and is involved in the teaching and training of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery trainees through his appointments at public teaching hospitals at Royal Perth Hospital, Fiona Stanley Hospital and Oral Health Centre of Western Australia. He is also a senior clinical lecturer at UWA and is also a reviewer for multiple peer reviewed journals.
